28 Apr 07 Lake Alabama opens at Al Asad Airbase After several weeks of site preparation, coordination, and planning, the newest reservoir on Al Asad Airbase was completed on April 28th 2007. Lake Alabama will be the largest raw water reservoir on Al Asad Airbase and is fed by a well that flows down from the hill above it. The 226th ASG was the driving force and primary coordinator for the completion of this project. The primary heavy equipment operators were employees of Kellogg Brown and Root. An Air Force unit provided some assistance in the last several days and a Navy unit assisted for 2 days. This reservoir will ensure that Al Asad Airbase and surrounding bases will have a contingency stock of raw water in the event of disruption of the primary raw water source. View Photos
