HEADQUARTERS AND HEADQUARTERS COMPANY
226TH SUPPORT GROUP


     Headquarters and Headquarter Company, 226th Area Support Group has a lineage beginning with organization in August 1916 or the 1st Cavalry Regiment, Alabama National Guard.  The unit was mustered into federal service 23 September 1916 at Montgomery, Alabama and became an element of the 31st (Dixie) Division on the 5th of August 1917.  On 1 October 1917 the unit was consolidated and reorganized as part of the 117th Field Artillery Regiment.  The unit was inducted into federal service on 25 November 1940.  The regiment was broken up 10 February 1942 with several elements designated as Headquarters and Service Battery, and reconstituted on 25 August 1945.
      Organized and federally recognized 9 January 1947 in the Alabama Army National Guard at Mobile as Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 226th Antiaircraft Artillery Group.  The unit was ordered into active federal service 4 September 1950 at Mobile; released 3 September 1952 from federal service and reverted to state control.
      Reorganized and designated 2 May 1959 as Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 226th Artillery Group.  The unit was ordered into active federal service 11 June 1963 at Mobile; released 16 June 1963 from active federal service and reverted to state control; ordered into active federal service 10 September 1963 at Mobile; released 13 September 1963 from federal service and reverted to state control.
      Converted and designated 15 January 1968 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 226th General Support Group.  It was again reorganized and designated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 226th Field Depot on 1 December 1969.  On 1 April 1972 the unit was reorganized under MTOE 29-512HNG02.
      Designated 1 September 1982 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 226th Theater Army Support Group (General Support) without reorganization.  The unit was ordered into active federal service 20 September 1990 at Mobile; released 4 July 1991 from active federal service and reverted to state control.
      Designated without reorganization under MTOE NG63622L01 on 1 September 1993 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company 226th Area Support Group.  Ordered into active federal service 10 February 2003 at Mobile; released 3 March 2004 from active federal service and reverted to state control.
