The Alabama Army National Guards 226th Area Support Group out of Mobile, Alabama was mobilized, once again, to active duty on 30 May 2006 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. The men and women of this proud unit stepped forward to assume their mission and pressed forward to do their duty with their new motto "Back to the Fight".
The unit had been mobilized in 2003 for Operation Iraqi Freedom and in 1990 for Operation Desert Storm. The units doctrinal mission is to provide logistics support on an area basis for Army units in and passing through its area of operation. This would entail oversight of several subordinate logistics battalions of several hundred soldiers each. This particular mission required a shift from doctrine for the 226th but has not affected the high moral and selfless service that its unit members bring to any mission they are given.
The Group Commander is Colonel David S. White and the Sergeant Major is Command Sergeant Major Tom Ray. Both are veterans of the 226th's deployment in 2003.
This website is dedicated to the unit members of the 226th Area Support Group their family members and friends who are so vital in making this unit successful.
